Jack's Scratcher

The refillable cat scratcher for door frames

Jack's Scratcher is the refillable cat scratcher made for interior door frames, a place many cats make their personal scratching post.  The reusable frame goes on in minutes, and refilling takes seconds.  It's a simple solution to a common problem.

Our Story

It started as an ugly cardboard-and-hot-glue fix for one cat's favorite door frame.

Jack's Scratcher started the way most good problem-solving starts: out of frustration. When our cat Jack decided the dining room door frame was his favorite scratching spot, we went looking for a fix and found nothing but flimsy, sticky-backed plastic film. So I decided to make one myself — out of cardboard, sisal rope, and hot glue. It was UGLY, but it worked and quickly became Jack's favorite scratcher.

Years later, after our other cats claimed their own doorways and seeing other cat parents fight the same losing battle, I, with engineering help from my husband, refined that first version into the product it is today — refillable, planet-friendly, and built for life with cats.

About the Founder

Lori Harper is the founder of Whisker's Widgets and creator of Jack's Scratcher, a product born from her own cat’s door-frame scratching habit and a lot of hands-on trial and error. Her background is in retail management and human resources where she supported leaders in manufacturing environments.  Turns out, that’s exactly the foundation she needed to take a cardboard-and-hot-glue prototype and build it into a real product. She's had cats for most of her life, and currently shares her home with seven of them.

Lori handles nearly every part of the business herself — from design to assembly to shipping — with steady support from her husband, an engineer, who quietly gives his time and expertise.   She is always looking for ways to make life with cats better and has more products planned for the future.
